A Message from Our Executive Director
Dear VOICE Students, Families, & Community Members,
For nearly 14 years, VOICE has been an important part of my professional life and personal commitment to public education. During that time, I have had the privilege of serving our students, families, and staff in a variety of roles across the organization. Each role has deepened my understanding of our school, strengthened my respect for this community, and reaffirmed my belief in the extraordinary potential of every student we serve.
When I became Executive Director in the spring of last school year, I did so with a profound sense of responsibility and gratitude. I know VOICE not only as a school, but as a community shaped by the dedication of families, educators, staff members, board members, alumni, and partners who have invested their time, trust, and energy in our students. I am proud to build on that legacy alongside you.
Having grown professionally within VOICE, I have seen firsthand the power of strong relationships, high expectations, thoughtful instruction, and consistent support. I have witnessed students grow in confidence and capability; families advocate fiercely for their children; and educators work tirelessly to make learning meaningful, rigorous, and joyful. These experiences continue to guide my leadership.
As we move forward, my commitment is to ensure that VOICE remains a school where every student is known, challenged, affirmed, and supported. We will continue to focus on:
Delivering rigorous, engaging instruction that helps students develop the academic knowledge, critical-thinking skills, and confidence needed for long-term success.
Creating safe, inclusive, and affirming school environments in which students feel a genuine sense of belonging.
Supporting our teachers and staff through strong systems, professional learning, coaching, and opportunities for growth.
Strengthening communication and partnership with families, who are essential to student achievement and to the life of our school.
Using data, reflection, and feedback to continuously improve our practice and advance equitable outcomes for every student.
I also recognize that meaningful leadership begins with listening. I remain committed to learning from students, families, staff, and community partners as we celebrate our strengths, address challenges honestly, and identify the opportunities that will help VOICE grow stronger.
I am deeply grateful for the confidence this community has placed in me. VOICE has shaped me as a leader, and I am committed to honoring its history while helping guide its next chapter with clarity, care, and purpose.
Thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to support our students. I am excited for the year ahead and proud to continue this work together.
With appreciation,
Matthew Kolman Executive Director
